Ry Cooder Work in Progress

Where to Buy

Recommendations from Rylanders for where to buy Ry's albums, movie soundtracks, work by other artists on which he has made a guest appearance, and other material that Ry has recommended himself. There can be no guarantees that these places will have what you want, but thy are probably a better bet than your local record store!

CD-Now

For recent material, try CD-Now, but do so via Neil's site so he earns some credits. There are plenty of advert links to choose from!

Amazon

Neil's site also contains links to Amazon. However, the following Hallmusic site has a handy summary page linking to all of Ry's works in Amazon.

The Auction site. If you are prepared to be patient and revisit every few days then all manner of rare material pops up. Work out your bidding strategy and practice on non-essential items.

McCabe's Music

Okay all you Rylanders, Cooderholics, Coodermaniacs, Cooderoids and Cooderboosters lurching across the spectrum from slavish devotion to simple appreciation of a fine musical craftsman: You want Cooder trivia? You got it. I've sent the following URL individually to others on the list, but here it is for all to see.

What we have here is the website of McCabe's Music in Santa Monica, California. It's Ryland's old haunt back when he was a mere lad. For all intents and purposes, he practically lived there. This place was located just a few blocks from his home, easy walking distance. The original location was a smaller shop a few doors down the street on Pico Blvd. Then it moved to larger quarters. Cooder was a fixture at both locations, almost every afternoon after he got out out high school.

McCabe's has a pretty good selection of guitars, including vintage stuff. I sent list member Kazushige Uchida there when he was visiting from Japan; unfortunately, there were slim pickings in the vintage section the week he was there. (You really have to check out the stock there weekly because it changes rapidly, or scan the bulletin board if you're into vintage instruments.)

So, check out McCabe's at: http://www.mccabesguitar.com/
Enjoy!

Hawaiian Music Island

Not surprisingly, Aunty Maria's site is a good bet for Gabby Pahinui and anything Hawaiian:

Get Rhythm

Walter Lindenberg's store in Germany normally has a good stock of Ry material:
