Information from Andrew Maring:

You mention that if anyone can confirm or deny Ry Cooder’s playing on any of these albums to please write. I know for certain that Ry was NOT on ‘Straight Life’. I was studying blues guitar with Steve around this time, and for a short while had one of the very very few copies of the disk. Steve Mann played guitar and Taj Mahall played harp, and that was it. In those days, it was not uncommon for a fine guitarist and a few friends to make an album, get a few copies pressed and hope it would open the way to fame and fortune. For some like John Fahey, it worked (sorta). Most of these efforts got ‘released’ off the back of a truck in an alley somewhere and disappeared with barely a trace. It’s a tribute to Steve that the album’s name is still remembered. If anyone runs across a copy they want to sell, please let me know.
